Yesterday I woke up very depressed, but that's a given lately on a work day. I ended up cooking a meal for me and Joe (one of the programers from the Boston office). I should have expected it, I got in a really good mood from cooking. As weird seeming as it is, it was fun that the meal turned out so well, and that I was able to pack them in little take-out boxes. I got to work and pumped out a huge stack of work, but my good mood didn't last, every time I got pages done they were replaced by the same amount, but from a previous portion of the report I just handed in. Then I spent the day almost getting knocked down when I was walking by people who were actually reading paperwork while walking around. Since my company is a vendor at a client's site I cannot say a word, not even "stop being so rude please." I've been getting more jumpy and nervous, and I figured out why. The office is so loud, people bang shit around, then I am almost run down in the hallway at least three times a day. So it's no wonder why I'm getting so tense there.

Anyway........... AnnMarie and I have three days off together, so that will be great. I got to see a massive amount of geese at the man made ponds at work. If I wasn't so busy it would be cool to go feed them.

I better get off my ass and spend some naked time in the shower.

Adventures in Food

One of the Programers from the Boston office is at our site all week. He's a nice guy and into Asian food as well. He's nice to me, so I made some meals to share with him twice this week. The first was scallops with steamed rice, and lo mein. The other meal was beef stir fry. I used green, red and yellow peppers with the beef for the first time, I think it turned out really well.

What a totally shitty week, work has been a total nightmare. Thank God for my blood pressure medication, and for the fact that the proof reader was a paramedic, because my heart is killing me. It's actually so bad that it was hurting while I was sleeping. I could go on for hours about how furious I am with the situations going on.

I found an older purple Gameboy at a comic book store that I am going back to buy on Saturday. I'm getting it just for Tetris. Outside of a GI Joe action figure that will be it for me for a few weeks as far as purchases go, at least I hope so.

At least I have a three day weekend coming up, and hopefully I won't have to run around.

Battle Wound, or Engineers Play Rough

  • Aug. 26th, 2008 at 3:59 PM
Went to the first day of Frosh week yesterday, as I had to write a English Proficiency test and that's when it was being held. Did the campus tour (It's fairly easy to get around, better than LU for sure), then had a pizza lunch and participated in some games while we were killing time before the test. So ~30 of us, frosh and leaders, were playing full-contact duck duck goose. Did my first run, ended up getting spun during the tackle, twisting my left knee. It was just a twinge, so I continued to play. After the game however it became rather clear that the knee was seriously unhappy. I got one of the leaders to improvise a wrap for it (no tensor bandages in the First Aid kit), acquired my Engineering nickname (Battle Wound) for continuing to play, and limped off to the test. Baffled them with bullshit on the test, likely successfully. Afterwards the knee was very clearly needing more than just an improvised support bandage so I got a leader to take me to the Ryerson Health Clinic, had the doc check me out and got sent to the Emerg along with another Eng Frosh who'd hurt himself (playing the same game).

4 bloody hours in the emerg, got a Zimmer splint and a cane, then headed over to the Ram (Ryerson's pub) for a beer. The Eng Leaders were there drinking so I joined them. Seems I've made a decent impression on the leaders and they're pretty cool overall.

And as I mentioned, I'm now known as Battle Wound. I'm also going to be gimpy for quite a while, as I possibly tore a ligament in my knee.

Yesterday was fun. I left early to go grocery shopping, I ended up going to three grocery stores. I had a really nice time, and I even got some sushi (two pieces of salmon, two eel, and two tuna) for only $8.25. I ended up finally getting an external 500gig harddrive on sale for $100. At night I ended up making food for work. I made some lomein to share with one of the guys I work with, AnnMarie even liked the lomein, which I was shocked about.

Today sucked at work, but that's a given. AnnMarie has next Monday off, so we'll have three days off together.

give in to the geek side!

  • Aug. 23rd, 2008 at 4:45 PM
Matt and I came to a loose agreement during our trip out, we are going to each buy an adult board game and we will take turns playing it. I'm not sure what one he will go with, but I am either going to pick one of the Axis and Allies games, or Godstorm (a more involved adult game made by Risk). I'm excited to do this. Both of us had a hard time not picking up a couple of the board games today. It's just not in the budget for me this week.

I almost picked up Okage for the PS2 today, but the game didn't have a manual, which I guess is why it was $5. I have the figures from the game, which are some of my favorite pieces in my toy collection, but I never played the game. I am not into RPG video games at all, but I thought if I could find it cheap that I would give it a try. While we were out I tried a PS3, I don't know if it was just the game, but I was not impressed by the graphics at all. In fact they were outright shitty to say the least.

I'm glad that I will finally be able to find an outlet for my military interests with a strategy board game. It should be a lot of fun.

Geek Out Day

  • Aug. 23rd, 2008 at 3:37 PM
My trip out with Matt was awesome. I had a really nice time. He brought me to a small castle that is a memorial to George Bancroft (U.S. Government official), which was great. No one else was there so we had free rein of the place. I'll be going back there to take photos of AnnMarie soon hopefully. We then went to the Chinese buffet. There was so much food, and I loved it. Matt never saw me eat so much and so fast. I didn't eat all morning, outside of a couple nibbles, so I would be very hungry for the meal. I want to go back soon. We then went to a huge comic book store and were there for at least an hour. Matt couldn't believe the amount of things they had. After that we went to Toys R Us, which was lots of fun. I saw the new Millenium Falcon and it is one fantastic toy. We went to the mall later, which was a total waste of time. His car almost got hit head on by someone who wasn't watching where they were going.

We'll be doing a trip like this once a month. Again, I had such a great time hanging out with him.

Come along, and see what a geek does on a Saturday.

Two days till the weekend

  • Aug. 21st, 2008 at 7:58 AM
I'm so glad that it's two days till the weekend. Matt and I should have a fun geeky time on Saturday. I'm really looking forward to it, and of course to the new Chinese restaurant we'll be stopping at.

AnnMarie started more work in the kitchen. It is like the dressing room, layers of strange paneling in massive layers. I'll be ripping out parts of it this weekend that she has a hard time reaching. Hopefully it won't take long to fix up. It won't take me long to get the front porch looking presentable. For now we just need it looking good, and it doesn't have to be the final way we want down the road.

I've been so busy. I feel so crabby due to not doing anything artistically at all in such a long time. Having the ability to make things, and having a list of ideas that I want to pursue, and then not having produced anything is such a drag.

I have to get a new stereo installed in my car. Honda dealerships want $100 to fix the code problem with it. Since the "back" button on the CD player doesn't work, I'm just going to pay $150 for a new one, which includes installation at Best Buy. I was going to do it this weekend, but I had an unexpected bill (what's new), so I have to put it off for a week or so. Being responsible sucks. I need the stereo, because I keep falling asleep at the wheel due to complete boredom.

depression and a sushi bar

  • Aug. 19th, 2008 at 7:34 AM
Yesterday wasn't so bad at work. I had a lot to do at home once I got in. After ripping the cabinet apart I had to put all the wood from it in the shed, of course I got a nail in one finger. It wasn't that bad though.

I'm depressed as hell again. I'm not sure over what though.

This weekend should be fun though. Matt and I will be hanging out on Saturday. Sunday I should be staying home. I'm really looking forward to sitting in the sun porch once the heat goes away. I've been looking around the front porch trying to figure out what I'll end up doing once I fix it in the Fall.

I don't know if I can do it, but I really would like to see if I can fit a sushi bar in the toy room, and make some sort of new shelving set up to store more toys in the future, as well as be more fun to look at. The plastic grey shelves I have now are pretty lame and boring.

bed & bunny

  • Aug. 19th, 2008 at 7:20 AM
The other day AnnMarie picked up an antique day bed. I had to bash apart the cabinet that came with the house to make room for the bed in the dressing room.

Yesterday they were ripping up the road next to the house again. I got lucky though, I have no clue what they were doing, but it gave us much better water pressure. There were a bunch of rocks around as well, so I was able to grab a bunch to put in the yard.

Here's the bunny I mentioned that was hanging out in the yard Saturday.
